Apply for Study Abroad opportunity

The NSLI-Y Application requests the following information:

Personal Information
Contact information, passport information, family information

Language Experience
Languages, time studied, skill level

International Experience
Countries visited, duration, reason

A letter to prospective host family and language instructors
Self-introduction, and information about family, friends, hobbies, etc.

Essay questions
Essays are used to help determine your personal motivation and promise as an exchange student

Parent's statement
Parental support and assessment of student's personal motivation and promise as an exchange student

Teacher Recommendation
Teacher evaluation and assessment of student's academic motivation and promise as an exchange student

Copy of Transcript
Official copy submitted by mail.
List of all high school courses and grades, including grade point average

Photos
Photos of you, your family and friends that help to introduce you to a prospective host family

Placement Information
Information about allergies, religion, diet, etc. for home-stay placement purposes

Terms and Conditions (to be signed by you and your parents/guardians)
Lists program policies and student responsibilities if chosen to participate

GROUP PROJECT

This is 50% of your May's grade

Directions

Work in groups of two or three to:
1. Create a skit that includes one scene or more. Think of a way that would be real-world situation and show some Arabic cultural aspects.
(Interview a famous person, meeting an important person, etc)
2. Practice these skits well and tape it or create a power point presentation.
3. The scenes need to include the following aspects:
- Greetings
- Asking and responding to well being
- Asking for and giving information about: name, age, study and major, work, etc.
- Talking about the weather and stating preference
- Talking about daily schedule, activities, and leisure activities.
- Talking about food and drinks: preference, diet, meals, etc.
- Expressing how often do you do these things: what do you do often, sometimes, most of the time, rarely, never.
- Use terms such as: Praise God, God willing, tasharafna, hadritak-hadritek, itfadal-itfadally, as far as بالنسبة لي , I have عندي , المصدر, and لكن.
- You can talk about what you like to wear and what not (buying clothes, wearing appropriate clothes for special occasion)
- Use the days of the week while talking about schedule.

Presentational

1) Research on the Net. Search the net and find three dishes from different Arabic-speaking countries. Name the food, identify its origin, tell what type of dish it is (salads, appetizers, main dish, sweets), tell whether it is healthy or not, tell three of its main ingredients, and what its main benefits.
